Creating Fancy Beveled Text
Using Photoshop 5.5 and Eye Candy 3.0
Creating an array of beveled text is very simple using Photoshop and
Eye Candy. In this shot tutorial, I will show you how the text was made for the titles of
the Graphics By Bogie web site. You can download the MS Word 97 document here (4Kb).
- Create a new document that is 500 x 80 pixels using your current background color (in
this case I will be using black)
- Click on the Type Tool (T) and click on the center left side of the workspace you
just created.
- In the Type Tool(T) dialog box:
- From the Font drop down menu, choose the Tiranti Solid LET font.
- Make sure that the Faux Bold and Faux Italic check boxes are checked. The Faux
Bold will thicken the lines for a nicer bevel.
- In the Size box, type 65 and select points from the drop down menu
next to it.
- Below the Cancel button, make sure that the Left Justify button is selected.
- Click on the Color box and choose your color. For this tutorial, select #00FFFF
which should give you Red=0, Green=255, and Blue=255. Click OK.
- In the display window, type This is a test
- Click OK
You should now see your workspace with black background and with cyan letters saying
"This is a test".
Click on the Filter menu item and slide down to where it says Eye Candy 3.0.
Select Inner Bevel from the Eye Candy menu.
- You will get a popup window asking you to proceed. Click OK.
- Bevel Width (pixels) = 3
- Bevel Shape = Button
- Smoothness = 5
- Shadow Depth = 50
- Highlight Brightness = 100
- Highlight Sharpness = 100
- Lighting Direction = 45 degrees
- Lighting Inclination = 45 degrees
- Click on the Check icon in the upper right corner of the Eye Candy dialog box.
- You should now see in your workspace the "This is a test" text nicely beveled.
- To make the text more three dimensional, click on the Filter menu item and go
back to Eye Candy 3.0. Select Drop Shadow.
- Direction = 315
- Distance (pixels) = 3
- Blur = 0
- Opacity = 100%
- Click on the Color box and select #CCCCCC which should give you Red=204,
Green=204 and Blue=204. Click OK
- Click on the Check icon in the upper right corner of the Eye Candy dialog box.
You are now finished making your fancy beveled text. For insertion into
a web page, you can select the area around the text and save the smaller version.
As always, you can tweak the Eye Candy settings for your own personal
needs.
